François-Xavier Lalanne (French, 1927-2008) was an engraver and sculptor known for his outdoor works, referencing animals and the natural world. Of Jesuit upbringing, Lalanne studied drawing, sculpture, and painting at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he became greatly influenced by artists Constantin Brancusi (Romanian, 1876-1957), René Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967), and Salvador.
